King Charles and Prince William Keeping Close Eye on Prince Harry as Duke Pushes Ahead With UK Engagements
King Charles and Prince William are reportedly “keeping a very close eye” on Prince Harry’s next moves as the Duke pushes ahead with charitable engagements in Britain despite firm Palace guidance confirming that he and Meghan Markle remain outside the working Royal Family.
Harry has resumed his public work with enthusiasm following what he described as an “eventful” move back to Britain, even as the Sussex family continues adjusting to security and schooling challenges.
Before Harry and Meghan began carrying out more visible engagements, Palace guidance reiterated the arrangements established after their royal departure, making clear that they undertake activities independently rather than as representatives of the monarchy.
Reports claimed the Sussexes received only around two minutes’ warning before the communication became public, adding another layer of tension to an already complicated relationship with the Palace.
Rather than disappearing from public view, however, Harry and Meghan have continued supporting their chosen causes while largely avoiding a direct public confrontation with Charles or William over the Palace’s position.
A source cited by Woman & Home claimed the Sussexes have “no intention” of fading into obscurity simply because they are no longer working royals.
“It is their belief that they have a great deal to offer charities and good causes that could benefit from their support,” the insider claimed, suggesting the couple intends to maintain a significant public profile in Britain.
“If the King thought that issuing the letter would simply make them fade away, he will be deeply disappointed,” the source added.
The couple’s determination to continue independent engagements has reportedly created uncertainty over how their activities could overlap with the work of senior royals, particularly as Harry increases his focus on the upcoming Invictus Games in Birmingham.
Royal expert Duncan Larcombe believes Charles and William will therefore be watching developments closely as they wait to see how Harry responds to the boundaries that have been reaffirmed around his role.
“King and William will be keeping a very close eye on the moves Harry makes next,” Larcombe said, claiming one concern would be the Duke choosing to publicly discuss his frustration in another major interview.
“Their biggest fear would be for him to fight back publicly by agreeing to an interview citing his frustration,” the commentator claimed.
Larcombe suggested any new criticism from Harry could create another difficult period for the Palace, particularly after previous interviews and independent overseas appearances that critics have sometimes characterised as “pseudo-royal tours.”
There is currently no indication that Harry plans such an interview, and neither Charles nor William has publicly said they are monitoring his engagements. For now, Harry and Meghan appear determined to pursue charitable work independently, leaving the Palace to navigate a delicate distinction between the Sussexes’ high-profile public activities and the official duties carried out on behalf of the King.
