Prince Harry Gets No From Diana’s Sisters as Documentary Plan Faces Major Roadblock
Prince Harry has reportedly suffered a major setback over his possible Princess Diana documentary after his mother’s sisters were claimed to be among those unwilling to participate in the proposed project.
The Duke of Sussex is said to be exploring ways to honour Diana ahead of the 30th anniversary of her death in 2027, with a documentary previously raised as one possible option rather than a confirmed production.
More recent claims suggest Harry has begun contacting relatives and people who knew his mother personally to gauge whether they would be willing to contribute their memories.
However, entertainment commentator Rob Shuter has claimed that several potential participants are reluctant to become involved because of the sensitivity surrounding Diana’s two sons and the wider Royal Family.
Among those allegedly keeping their distance are Diana’s sisters, Sarah and Jane, whose absence would be particularly significant given their close family connection to the late Princess.
“Diana’s own sisters saying no sends an enormous message,” an unnamed source claimed while discussing the reported reluctance surrounding Harry’s project.
The insider suggested there does not need to be any direct intervention from Buckingham Palace for potential contributors to worry about the consequences of becoming involved.
“Nobody has to threaten anyone. People understand the consequences: help Harry tell his version of Diana’s story and the palace door could slam shut,” the source alleged.
There is no evidence that Buckingham Palace has threatened Diana’s relatives or friends over participation in any documentary, and neither Sarah nor Jane has publicly explained whether they have actually received or rejected an approach from Harry.
Another source claimed that some of Diana’s longtime friends are similarly reluctant because appearing in a project associated with Harry could be interpreted as taking his side in his continuing estrangement from Prince William.
“Nobody wants to choose between Diana’s sons,” the insider said. “But appearing in Harry’s film will be viewed as choosing a side — and people are terrified of what that could cost them.”
William is also alleged to have reservations about Harry taking the lead on a new portrayal of their mother. “Diana was his mother too. Harry doesn’t own her story,” a source said while characterising the Prince of Wales’ reported position.
William has not publicly commented on Harry’s possible documentary, meaning claims that he is actively opposing it remain unconfirmed. There is likewise no announcement establishing that Harry has finalised the film or secured contributors.
If Harry does move ahead, however, the reported reluctance of Diana’s sisters and longtime friends could present a significant challenge. With memories of the Princess remaining deeply personal to both William and Harry, potential contributors may face the difficult question of whether participating in one brother’s project risks being interpreted as taking sides in a family rift they would rather avoid.
