Prince Harry’s Diana Anniversary Plan Risks Deepening Rift With Prince William as Documentary Idea Emerges

Prince Harry is exploring a possible Princess Diana documentary to mark the anniversary next year a reported plan that could create another difficult issue with Prince William if the project ultimately moves forward.

Speculation about such a project has circulated for some time, with reports suggesting Harry has been considering how best to honour his mother’s life and legacy ahead of the significant anniversary.

According to a new report by People Magazine, one possibility being explored is a documentary about Diana, although the idea has not been confirmed or finalised and may never progress into a completed production.

Harry’s team has reportedly been approached for comment, but there has been no official announcement from the Duke confirming that he is producing a film or revealing what form any anniversary project might take.

Sources have also claimed Harry has been contacting relatives and friends who knew Diana, particularly since his return to Britain, as he considers ways of commemorating his mother.

The possibility of a documentary has inevitably raised questions about William, given the brothers’ different approaches towards public discussion of Diana and the long-running difficulties in their own relationship.

Reports have previously suggested the Prince of Wales would be unhappy about Harry pursuing a Diana documentary and could view such a project as commercially benefiting from their mother’s story.

However, William has not publicly commented on the latest People report, meaning claims that he is already furious about the potential project should be treated as unconfirmed rather than his established position.

A documentary marking Diana’s death would not be entirely unprecedented for the brothers. Harry and William previously participated in projects remembering their mother around the 20th anniversary of her death.

Their relationship was very different at that point, however, allowing them to publicly reflect on Diana together and share memories of their childhood and the enormous impact of losing their mother.

Today, the brothers remain estranged, with reports suggesting they have gone years without meaningful communication despite Harry returning to Britain and attempting to improve other family relationships.

That makes the approaching 30th anniversary particularly sensitive. Both princes share a deeply personal connection to Diana’s legacy, yet there is currently little indication they are preparing to commemorate the occasion together.

Harry’s reported outreach to people who knew Diana could simply form part of his broader consideration of how to honour her, rather than confirmation that production on a documentary is already underway.
