Prince Harry Believes Royal Family Still Needs Him Despite King Charles Firm Palace Message
Prince Harry believes the Royal Family could still need him in the future despite King Charles reaffirming that there is no route back to life as a working royal, with an insider claiming the Duke does not consider his royal connection “completely irreversible.”
Harry has continued his charitable work since stepping away from senior royal duties, maintaining longstanding involvement with veterans, charities and international organisations while building a separate life with Meghan Markle.
The Duke is currently in Britain during a particularly sensitive period for the family, with his uncle Charles Spencer’s forthcoming Princess Diana memoir reopening difficult questions about the past.
However, a source cited by Radar claims Harry continues to believe he could eventually have a meaningful place within the wider royal family, even if the Palace currently maintains clear boundaries around his official status.
The insider said Harry understands that he cannot simply return after years away and expect the circumstances surrounding his departure from royal duties to be forgotten.
“Harry’s attitude is that nothing involving the monarchy should ever be regarded as completely irreversible,” the source claimed while describing the Duke’s alleged thinking about his long-term future.
The insider added that Harry “doesn’t accept that there can never be a meaningful place for him again,” although that does not amount to any confirmed offer or discussions about restoring an official role.
According to the source, Harry believes the monarchy will face considerable demands in the coming years while having fewer working members available to carry out engagements and support causes.
The Duke allegedly sees his international profile and years of experience representing the monarchy as qualities that could potentially prove useful should circumstances change in the future.
“Harry believes he still has an international profile, enormous experience of public engagements and longstanding connections with charities, veterans and organizations around the world,” the insider said.
“He thinks there may eventually be a realization that those things have value to the monarchy,” the source continued, adding that Harry believes the Royal Family “still needs him.”
That reported confidence comes despite Charles recently reaffirming the arrangements established following Harry and Meghan’s departure from senior royal duties, making clear that their current position remains outside the working monarchy.
Harry has nevertheless emphasised his connection with Britain, while his return with Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet has provided their children with more opportunities to experience British life and spend time closer to their royal relatives.
Reports suggest the Sussex family could return to California during the October half-term before spending another period in Britain and later travelling back to America for Christmas. For now, Harry’s belief that his experience could one day be valuable remains an insider claim rather than a sign that Charles or William intends to restore his working royal role.
