Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Apology Report Takes Dramatic Turn as New Claim Emerges
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been dealt a fresh blow over claims they were preparing to apologise to the Royal Family, after a source close to the Sussexes dismissed the reports as “nonsense”.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were recently said to be reconsidering some of their past public comments, including their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, as speculation continued about improving relations with the royals. However, the latest account directly challenges the suggestion that an apology is being planned.
According to People magazine, a source close to Harry and Meghan rejected the reports, contradicting an earlier story published by the Daily Express. The conflicting accounts have added another twist to speculation about whether the couple are ready to take steps towards reconciliation.
The earlier report claimed the Sussexes had begun reflecting on their decision to speak publicly about their experiences after leaving royal duties in 2020. An unnamed insider suggested they might have to eat “humble pie” if they hoped to improve relations with the family.
That account also suggested Harry regretted aspects of the Oprah interview, which attracted worldwide attention in 2021. During the broadcast, the couple discussed their experiences within the monarchy, prompting intense debate and placing the Royal Family under renewed scrutiny.
One of the most controversial revelations concerned conversations about the possible complexion of the couple’s son, Archie, before his birth. Meghan said there had been “concerns and conversations” about how dark his skin might be, but did not publicly identify the person involved.
The remarks caused a major controversy, prompting Prince William to respond publicly when asked whether the Royal Family was racist. He rejected that characterisation, saying the family was “very much not a racist family”.
The Express source subsequently claimed Harry had been angry with his relatives at the time and had supported Meghan, but that the couple now believed they had “taken things too far”. The insider also reportedly described the discussion of Archie’s skin colour as a “low blow”.
However, the source cited by People has reportedly rejected the broader suggestion that an apology is being discussed within the Sussex household. Neither Harry nor Meghan has publicly confirmed plans to apologise or said they regret the Oprah interview.
The conflicting reports underline how difficult it is to establish the couple’s private intentions through anonymous briefings. While one account suggests they have reconsidered their approach, the other dismisses the claim that a royal apology is being prepared.
Speculation about reconciliation has continued amid reports that King Charles remains open to improving relations with his younger son. Yet there has been no official announcement confirming a new meeting or a breakthrough in their relationship.
Prince William’s position is also central to expectations surrounding any family reunion. Reports have suggested there has been little movement towards reconciliation on his side, although neither William nor Kensington Palace has publicly confirmed that assessment.
Charles is also a grandfather to Archie and Lilibet, and some reports have suggested that the children’s relationship with the wider family could be a consideration in efforts to improve relations. However, the King’s private intentions should not be assumed without confirmation.
For now, the latest report has cast doubt on claims that Harry and Meghan are preparing to apologise to their relatives. Until either the couple or their representatives confirms a change in position, the suggestion remains disputed rather than an established step towards reconciliation.
