Duchess Sophie Given New Royal Title as Former Aide Reveals Why King Charles Relies on Her

Duchess Sophie has been given a striking new royal title by former royal butler Grant Harrold, who described the wife of Prince Edward as the “perfect royal” and claimed she has become a steady influence for King Charles.

Speaking on behalf of Heart Bingo Online to GB News, Harrold praised Sophie’s years of public service and suggested her importance within the Royal Family has grown considerably as Charles settles into his reign.

The former royal aide described the Duchess of Edinburgh as a “firm favourite” within the monarchy, arguing that her quiet approach has helped establish her as one of the family’s most dependable members.

Harrold went even further by comparing Sophie to Princess Anne, calling her the “next generation’s Princess Anne” because of her willingness to work consistently without seeking the brightest spotlight.

The comparison is particularly notable because Anne has spent decades carrying out public duties while maintaining a reputation for reliability, and Harrold believes Sophie is increasingly filling a similar role within Charles’ generation of the monarchy.

Sophie’s workload has also attracted attention. She carried out 235 engagements in 2025, according to the figures cited in the report, placing her fourth among working members of the Royal Family that year.

While Sophie may not always receive the same level of attention as William, Kate or other senior royals, her supporters argue that her consistent presence has quietly strengthened her position within the Firm.

Harrold claimed Sophie has long been admired for her commitment to causes she cares about, using her royal platform to highlight issues while maintaining the low-key style that has become closely associated with her public work.

He also pointed to Sophie’s relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth, claiming she was particularly admired by the former monarch and has maintained a close relationship with Catherine, Princess of Wales.

“She has always clearly been a favourite, and they all enjoy spending time with her,” Harrold said, while also claiming Sophie’s position has become even stronger in recent years.

The former royal butler described Sophie as the King’s “steady influence,” suggesting that her reliability has become especially valuable during a period when the Royal Family has faced multiple pressures and competing demands.

“Sophie and the King have a brother-sister-like relationship,” Harrold claimed, adding that Charles trusts her in much the same way that Princess Anne has been trusted within the family for decades.

He argued that Sophie and Anne are similar because neither is inclined to become distracted by controversy, instead focusing on their duties and continuing to support the institution.

The claims also point towards Sophie’s potential importance during William’s future reign, with Harrold saying he has “no doubt” she will become one of the future King’s closest allies.

Harrold ultimately predicted that Sophie could become a matriarchal figure within the Royal Family and a “vital asset” to William, highlighting how her influence may extend well beyond her current role.

While those descriptions are Harrold’s personal assessment rather than an official Palace title or appointment, they underline the growing attention surrounding Sophie’s contribution to the modern monarchy and explain why the Duchess of Edinburgh is increasingly being viewed as one of its quiet but important figures.
