Prince William’s team shifted attention with upbeat message as King Charles faces renewed pressure from Charles Spencer’s forthcoming Princess Diana memoir and the sensitive claims already emerging from the book.
On September 20, the Prince of Wales’ environmental initiative shared additional photographs from William’s conversation with prominent Indian filmmaker Karan Johar, offering royal followers a noticeably lighter update.
The post highlighted William’s passion project, the Earthshot Prize, which seeks to bring attention to environmental solutions and will hold its annual awards ceremony in Mumbai this November.
Johar is set to host this year’s Earthshot Prize Awards Night, placing the celebrated filmmaker at the centre of one of the biggest events on William’s environmental calendar.
“What’s special about The Earthshot Prize is how it’s bringing the world together to fight one common cause,” Johar said in the message shared alongside photographs from his conversation with William.
The Prince’s team also directed followers towards the complete conversation on YouTube, allowing viewers to hear more from William and Johar ahead of the upcoming Mumbai ceremony.
The light-hearted update arrives during a considerably more difficult period elsewhere in the Royal Family as Charles Spencer prepares to release Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.
Spencer’s memoir has generated widespread attention because of several personal recollections involving his late sister Diana, King Charles and events surrounding one of the most painful periods in modern royal history.
Some of those claims have already prompted Buckingham Palace to take the unusual step of responding publicly, despite the institution generally maintaining a policy of not commenting on books.
The Palace questioned one of Spencer’s recollections by suggesting that the pain of grief can affect judgment and “colour memory,” although Diana’s brother has continued to stand by his version of events.
The disagreement has created another unwelcome challenge for Charles while the King continues undergoing cancer treatment and carrying out his responsibilities as monarch.
It also follows a period in which other family matters involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Prince Harry have generated considerable attention, keeping the monarchy under sustained public scrutiny.
There is no indication that William’s Earthshot post was deliberately released to distract from the Spencer controversy. The environmental initiative maintains its own programme and regularly promotes its projects and upcoming events.
For William, the message instead keeps public attention on one of his central long-term projects. While the Palace handles renewed discussion about Diana and Charles Spencer’s memoir, the Prince of Wales is continuing to promote the Earthshot Prize and its international environmental mission.
