Prince Harry’s plans to honour Princess Diana on the 30th anniversary of her death could create another sensitive moment for Buckingham Palace, with any major tribute arriving just weeks after Queen Camilla celebrates her milestone 80th birthday.
The Duke of Sussex is reportedly exploring different ways to commemorate his mother ahead of August 31, 2027, when three decades will have passed since Diana died aged 36 following a car crash in Paris.
One possibility attracting particular attention is a documentary about Diana, although no final project has been officially announced and reports suggest Harry is still considering how best to mark the anniversary.
Harry has reportedly been reaching out to relatives and people who knew his mother as he explores possible projects designed to celebrate her life and preserve her legacy.
The timing, however, could prove particularly delicate for the Royal Family because Camilla will turn 80 on July 17, placing her landmark birthday only around six weeks before Diana’s anniversary.

That does not mean Harry is deliberately attempting to overshadow the Queen’s birthday. The timing of Diana’s anniversary is fixed, and there has been no indication from the Duke that any planned tribute is intended as a challenge to Camilla or Buckingham Palace.
Nevertheless, the two milestones could create an uncomfortable period for a Royal Family that has already faced renewed attention surrounding Diana following the publication of Charles Spencer’s memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.
Spencer’s book has revived painful claims surrounding his sister’s life and death, prompting an unusual Palace response and further public disagreement between Diana’s brother and King Charles.
Against that backdrop, a major project involving Harry could ensure Diana remains at the centre of royal conversation throughout the summer of 2027, potentially creating another difficult communications challenge for the Palace.
Harry’s relationship with the institution has already gone through years of tension since he and Meghan Markle stepped away from their positions as senior working royals in 2020 and established an independent life in the United States.
