Queen Camilla and Princess Kate Putting Differences Amid Over Harry and Meghan’s UK Return
Queen Camilla and Princess Kate are reportedly putting aside their differences over a major issue concerning Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to UK.
There have long been claims of tension between Camilla and Kate because of their different positions within the royal family, with the Princess of Wales enjoying significantly higher public popularity than the Queen.
However, the reported return of the Sussexes to the UK may have brought the two royal women closer together over concerns about how Harry and Meghan’s presence could affect the monarchy.
According to royal expert Andrew Lownie, Camilla and Kate have reportedly joined forces to encourage King Charles to establish “clear boundaries” with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Lownie claimed that the King and Prince William were aware of Harry and Meghan’s plans to return to Britain well before the move became public, with both reportedly knowing about the plans around six months in advance.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Lownie suggested that the advance knowledge of the move may have suited the senior royals, allowing them to maintain some distance while public opinion about the Sussexes’ return was being tested.
The royal expert’s comments come as questions continue over exactly what role Harry and Meghan could have in Britain, particularly because the couple have reportedly insisted that they have no desire to return as working royals.
Despite those claims, William and Kate are reportedly concerned that the Sussexes could eventually seek some form of “half-in, half-out” arrangement that would allow them to maintain a connection to the monarchy without taking on the full responsibilities of working royals.
Such a possibility could create another difficult situation for King Charles, who has previously faced questions over how he intends to manage his relationship with his younger son while protecting the boundaries of the modern monarchy.
Lownie claimed that Camilla has been particularly supportive of Kate during the situation and suggested that the Queen has been helping strengthen Charles’s position on the matter.
“The Queen, who is very close to Kate, has been stiffening the resolve of the King to establish clear boundaries for [Harry and Meghan],” Lownie claimed.
The comments suggest that Camilla and Kate could be united in wanting the King to make the limits of Harry and Meghan’s involvement clear before any potential disagreement becomes more difficult to manage.
However, the Sussex issue is reportedly not the only source of frustration within the family, with Lownie pointing to wider disagreements over the way Charles has handled other complicated royal matters.
“There remains a great deal of family dissension about the way the King has handled the Sussex problem,” he claimed, while also referring to criticism surrounding the King’s approach to Prince Andrew and his family.
For now Prince Harry and Meghan Markle remain outside the working royal structure, while their reported return to Britain continues to generate questions about their long-term plans.
With Charles, William, Camilla and Kate reportedly focused on protecting the boundaries of the monarchy, the coming months could reveal whether the Sussexes’ new chapter in the UK remains entirely private or develops into something more complicated.
