Prince Harry appears to have made sure that his father King Charles and brother Prince William were not left in the dark about his plans to return to UK, despite the surprise surrounding the Sussexes’ latest decision.
There has been considerable speculation over Harry’s plans for the UK, particularly after the Duke repeatedly suggested that Britain would always remain “home” to him. While the announcement may have appeared sudden, claims from a source close to Harry suggest the move had been discussed for considerably longer.
According to a friend of the Duke cited by the Daily Mail, both King Charles and Prince William were reportedly aware of the Sussexes’ intentions well before the public announcement was made. “The King has been well aware of what Harry wanted for some time and on their visit in July he knows that they were looking around schools,” the friend reportedly told journalist Alison Boshoff.
The source further claimed that William had also known about the plans for approximately six months, insisting that neither the King nor the future monarch was caught completely unaware by the Sussexes’ decision.
“William has also been aware for about six months. There is no question of anyone being ‘blindsided,’” the friend was quoted as saying, offering a different version of events from previous reports about when the Royal Family learned of the move.
Earlier claims had suggested that some members of the Royal Family only learned about Harry and Meghan’s decision shortly before the announcement, while commentator Rob Shuter previously claimed that the Palace discovered the plans through American media reports.

However, the source insisted that Harry’s motivation is not connected to a desire to return to royal life. Instead, the Duke is reportedly focused on what he believes is best for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The friend claimed Harry specifically wants his children to be raised in Britain and experience a British education, describing the decision as one made by “committed parents” who believe the move could offer Archie and Lilibet important opportunities.
“He specifically doesn’t want to do that. This is about Harry wanting what is best for them and he wants them to be raised British, in Britain, and go to a public school. That is what the move is about,” the source said.
