Royal Family Sends Strong Message of Unity After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK Decision
The Royal Family has appeared united at Balmoral as King Charles and senior members of the monarchy continue their annual summer retreat, amid growing attention surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reported plans to spend more time in the UK.
The Sussexes reported decision to return to Britain has inevitably prompted questions about how the Royal Family might react, particularly given the strained relationship between Harry and several senior royals since his departure from royal duties.
However, when asked whether the Sussexes’ return should be viewed as a threat or an olive branch, a palace source claimed the Royal Family was not interested in judging or speculating about their actions.
“The royal family doesn’t have time to judge or speculate on others’ actions,” the source said. “Their focus remains on their planned programme and service.”
The insider also addressed speculation about a possible rift between the Prince and Princess of Wales and King Charles, insisting that the senior royals remain united despite any differences that may arise behind closed doors.
“They are always on the same page, because their priority is their people and their wellbeing,” the source claimed, adding that different opinions over how to handle a situation should not automatically be interpreted as a serious family dispute.
“No stunt can drive a wedge between them,” the insider continued. “While there may be discussions and different suggestions on how to handle the situation, it does not mean they are at loggerheads.”
Neither the Waleses nor the wider Royal Family has publicly responded to the Sussexes’ reported homecoming plans, with their silence seemingly allowing Harry and Meghan’s announcement to pass without becoming the centre of attention during the Balmoral gathering.
Senior royals have instead appeared to put on a united front, with members of the family coming together for their traditional summer activities. Their public appearances have also provided a visible reminder of the close working relationship between the senior members of the monarchy.
On Sunday, the Royal Family attended worship at Crathie Kirk, the small granite church located close to the Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire. The royal party arrived in a convoy of vehicles, with King Charles and Queen Camilla travelling in the lead car.
Prince William was behind the wheel of another vehicle, with Catherine, Princess of Wales, and their three children travelling as passengers. Their arrival at the church came as the family continued its traditional summer stay in Scotland.
King Charles and Queen Camilla were also joined by the Princess Royal and her husband, Sir Tim Laurence, while the Duke of Edinburgh attended alongside his daughter, Lady Louise.
The annual Balmoral retreat began earlier in the week and traditionally provides the Royal Family with an opportunity to step away from official engagements, relax and spend private time together away from the pressures of royal life.
This year, however, the gathering has taken on additional significance following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s reported plans to return to Britain, six years after their departure from frontline royal duties.
Harry and Meghan’s reported UK plans have inevitably revived questions about whether their presence could lead to renewed contact with senior royals. For now, however, the response from Balmoral appears to be one of silence, with the Royal Family seemingly determined to remain focused on its own priorities rather than be drawn into further speculation.
