Prince Harry’s Big UK Gamble Raises Questions About Meghan Markle’s As Sussexes Adjust to New Life
Prince Harry has reportedly been concerned about how Meghan Markle would adjust to life back in the United Kingdom, with a royal commentator suggesting the Duke of Sussex may have worried that an unhappy experience could eventually force the couple to return to their California home.
The Sussexes’ reported return to Britain at the end of August came with several challenges, including questions about security arrangements, their children’s schooling and their position outside the working Royal Family.
King Charles has reportedly made clear that Harry and Meghan remain private citizens rather than working members of the monarchy, meaning their activities in Britain are separate from official royal duties.
Harry himself described the period as “eventful”, reflecting the changes the family have faced while settling into a different routine after years in the United States.
In the weeks following their return, Harry appeared to resume public engagements while Meghan maintained a comparatively low profile, prompting speculation about how she would adapt to their new circumstances.
Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe told New Magazine that the move may have been driven more by Harry’s wishes than Meghan’s, describing the situation as Meghan going along with Harry rather than the other way around.
Larcombe suggested that Harry could have been concerned about whether his wife would feel comfortable with the move and whether the family might eventually have to reconsider their decision.
The commentator also acknowledged that relocating to Britain represented a significant adjustment for Meghan, who had established her life and business interests in California after the couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
“I’m sure Harry would have instigated this move,” Larcombe said, adding that he believed the Duke would have been worried about what might happen if Meghan did not enjoy their new life.
The expert also suggested that Meghan’s biggest challenge could be avoiding isolation, particularly if much of her time were spent at the couple’s reported Cotswolds home.
“You do wonder how she fills her days,” Larcombe remarked, while suggesting that Meghan would not want to feel confined to the property.
These comments represent the commentator’s interpretation of the couple’s circumstances rather than confirmed details of their private discussions. Neither Harry nor Meghan has publicly confirmed that the Duchess was unhappy with the move or considering returning to California.
Meanwhile, Meghan has continued to focus on her lifestyle brand, As Ever, including its products and promotional activities. She has also remained involved in humanitarian initiatives, giving her professional interests a place in her new routine.
Those activities could provide opportunities to maintain her independence and connections beyond the home, although the couple’s long-term plans have not been publicly established.
Harry’s decision to return to Britain has also renewed attention on the family’s relationship with the Royal Family, particularly whether the move could eventually create opportunities for more contact between Charles and his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
No confirmed announcement has established that a wider family reconciliation is imminent, and questions about security arrangements remain separate from speculation about the Sussexes’ personal future.
For now, the couple appear to be balancing family adjustments with their individual projects, while outside observers continue to debate whether their return will become a lasting move or a temporary chapter in their lives.
