Meghan Markle’s UK TV Return Takes Unexpected Turn After Netflix Setback
Meghan Markle is reportedly set to return to UK television screens next week but her latest appearance is unlikely to be the major acting comeback some had anticipated following renewed speculation about her entertainment career.
The Duchess of Sussex is expected to appear on U&W as the channel reruns an episode of MasterChef Australia in which she served as a guest judge, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
The broadcast comes after rumours circulated that Meghan could join the cast of the hit series The Gentlemen, prompting speculation that she might be preparing to return to scripted television.
Those casting rumours faded without a confirmed announcement, leaving questions about whether the Duchess would pursue acting again after stepping away from the profession when she married Prince Harry.
Meghan’s upcoming British television appearance will instead revisit her time on the Australian cooking competition, where she took part in a special challenge involving the contestants.
During the episode, participants were asked to prepare a dish described as being “fit for a duchess”, with Meghan joining the programme as a guest judge.
A television insider quoted by the Daily Mail suggested that the broadcast would not be the high-profile return some observers had imagined.
“Meghan will be able to watch herself on the telly after all, but it’s not like it’s on a streaming giant, the BBC or even ITV,” the source reportedly said.
The insider added that the programme would air on U&W, available on Freeview at channel 25, and suggested that UKTV executives hoped Meghan’s appearance would help attract viewers.
The report also noted that the Duchess had divided opinion among British audiences, making the response to the rerun difficult to predict.
Meghan’s television plans have attracted attention amid changes in her entertainment projects, including reports about the conclusion of her previous Netflix arrangement. However, the details of her future screen work remain uncertain.
Her lifestyle brand, As Ever, has also become a prominent part of her public activities, with the Duchess focusing on products and promotional content alongside her other commitments.
The MasterChef Australia rerun offers a different kind of television exposure from an acting role, bringing an existing appearance back to British audiences rather than introducing Meghan in a new production.
It also follows her recent appearance on Australian television, adding to renewed interest in her media activities beyond the United States.
There has been no confirmed announcement that Meghan is joining The Gentlemen or returning to a regular acting role, despite the speculation that previously surrounded her.
For now, her reported appearance on U&W is set to provide British viewers with another opportunity to see the Duchess on screen, even if it falls short of the dramatic comeback some had predicted.
