Prince William’s £5,000 Donation for Veterans Draws Attention to a Cause Close to Prince Harry Heart

Prince William has donated £5,000 to a former Royal Marine raising money for veterans drawing attention to a cause that also matters deeply to Prince Harry, although there is no evidence the gesture signals a possible reunion between the estranged brothers.

According to HELLO! Magazine, the Prince of Wales made the donation to Dave “Dinger” Bell, a former Royal Marine from Bere Regis in Dorset, who undertook solo rowing challenges across the Pacific and Indian Oceans to raise funds and awareness for people affected by post-traumatic stress disorder.

Bell’s fundraising supports Rock2Recovery, a charity that helps veterans and emergency service personnel experiencing PTSD and other mental health challenges.

William’s contribution has attracted interest because support for military personnel is also closely associated with his younger brother, whose time in the armed forces helped shape his later charitable work.

Harry founded the Invictus Games to support wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans through sport and recovery. Although William’s donation went to a separate organisation, both princes have demonstrated support for people who have served.

The Prince of Wales reportedly made the contribution under the name “William Wales”, reflecting the surname he used during his military service.

William also sent Bell a personal message congratulating him on completing the demanding challenge and raising money for a cause he described as important.

“An extraordinary achievement. Huge congratulations to Dinger for completing this incredible challenge in support of a brilliant cause. Well done! W,” the message read.

Bell later publicly thanked those who had contributed to the fundraising effort, singling out the future King for his support.

“Thank you for all the donations. I’m recovering well,” Bell said, before offering a special thank you to the Prince of Wales for his donation to Rock2Recovery.

The gesture has highlighted a shared interest between William and Harry in supporting members of the military community, despite the reported strain in their personal relationship.

However, it would be premature to interpret the donation as a deliberate signal to Harry. Neither William nor Kensington Palace has linked the contribution to the brothers’ relationship, and no reconciliation plans have been announced.

The brothers have followed different paths since Harry stepped back from working royal duties with Meghan Markle in 2020. Their relationship has faced public scrutiny, but the details of any private discussions about their future remain unclear.

William’s donation may nevertheless remind observers of the causes that have featured in both brothers’ lives. Harry has made veterans’ welfare a central part of his work through Invictus, while William continues to support charitable and military communities through his royal role.

Shared charitable interests, however, do not necessarily translate into personal reconciliation. There is no confirmed indication that the donation will lead to renewed contact between the brothers or change the current state of their relationship.

For now, William’s contribution is a direct show of support for Bell’s achievement and the work of Rock2Recovery. Any connection to the ongoing rift with Harry remains speculation, rather than evidence of a reunion being closer.
