Prince Harry Faces Christmas Setback as King Charles Reportedly Keeps Sandringham Reunion on Hold
Prince Harry is reportedly preparing to spend Christmas away from the Royal Family despite hoping that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet could experience the festive traditions he remembers from his childhood, with King Charles said to believe a full family reunion may still be premature.
According to claims published by New Idea, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not expecting an invitation to the traditional Sandringham Christmas gathering and may instead return to their home in Montecito, California.
The report suggests that relations between Harry and the Royal Family have yet to reach a point where spending the holidays together would be comfortable for everyone involved.
Although Charles has reportedly expressed a desire to strengthen his relationship with his grandchildren, the prospect of bringing the wider family together at Christmas remains uncertain.
Sources cited by the publication claimed that Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is understood to spend time at the Sussexes’ Montecito home, has been missing Archie and Lilibet.
A separate source suggested that Harry finds the festive season particularly difficult because it reminds him of the family traditions he once shared with his relatives.
“Fact is, he always gets very homesick at that time of year; he misses being a part of all their traditions,” the insider reportedly said.
For Harry, the prospect of celebrating Christmas with his children in the UK would carry particular significance, allowing them to experience some of the customs that formed part of his upbringing.
The source claimed that the Duke was “desperate” to reconnect with his family and introduce Archie and Lilibet to more of their royal relatives.
However, the report did not establish that Charles has personally rejected a Christmas invitation or that a final decision has been made about the Sussexes’ festive arrangements.
The traditional Sandringham gathering remains one of the Royal Family’s most recognisable annual events, typically bringing relatives together for Christmas celebrations and a church service on December 25.
For the Sussexes, attending such an occasion would represent a significant moment given the strained relationships that have followed their departure from royal duties in 2020.
Yet a Christmas reunion is not the only possibility being discussed in reports about the family’s future. The insider suggested that another gathering could take place somewhere other than Sandringham.
“[Harry] would love Archie and Lilibet to experience a proper royal Christmas and finally meet more of the extended family, whether that’s at Sandringham or wherever Charles decides is best,” the source reportedly said.
The comments suggest that hopes for future contact remain, even if the traditional Christmas gathering does not provide the setting for it this year.
There has been no official confirmation of the Sussexes’ Christmas plans, and the claims about Harry’s private feelings and Charles’s intentions remain attributed to unnamed sources.
For now, the possibility of a royal Christmas reunion remains uncertain, while the wider question of how Harry’s children will build relationships with their UK relatives continues to attract attention.
