Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Arrive In UK With Archie and Lilibet To Embrace New Chapter
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have left the United States and arrived in UK to begin what they hope will be a new chapter centred on family, purpose and greater independence.
The Sussexes’ arrival has captured headlines, with Meghan reportedly returning to Britain with her own team, renewed ambitions and greater control over her professional career as the family prepares for an extended stay.
Those close to the former Suits actress say her support network is now “stronger than it ever was”, suggesting that Meghan feels better prepared to navigate life in Britain without the palace structure that once surrounded her.
Returning to the UK does not mean returning to royal duties, however. Harry and Meghan are expected to remain private, non-working members of the Royal Family, with the arrangements established when they stepped back from official duties in 2020 remaining in place.
Prince Harry and his children are nevertheless understood to have the full blessing of King Charles for their stay. The Palace has reportedly offered the family royal accommodation during their time in Britain, potentially making their return easier to manage.
Six years ago, Harry and Meghan left Britain following a turbulent period as working royals, with intense media attention adding to the pressures Meghan said she experienced while living within the royal environment.
The Duchess has since spoken openly about feeling isolated and unhappy during that period, including previously revealing that she experienced suicidal thoughts. Her return therefore comes with a very different set of circumstances.
This time, Meghan is arriving without the palace hierarchy that she previously described as difficult, while also having her own career, professional team and support network to help her manage her public and business activities.
“She has been vocal about how she felt about it before, but that doesn’t mean things are going to be exactly the same again,” an ally told PEOPLE. “It doesn’t mean it can’t be different and can’t change.”
The Sussexes’ decision could also provide them with an opportunity to improve their standing among the British public. Recent polling has placed both Harry and Meghan near the lower end of royal popularity rankings, although their return could give them an opportunity to create a different impression.
Last week, reports emerged that the couple planned to spend an extended period in the UK during August and autumn, with a private property near London in the Cotswolds reportedly being considered as their base.
In a statement shared with The New York Times, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said they had decided to spend an extended period in the UK after enjoying a summer trip with family and friends. “They are excited to have their children spend more time in the country that’s such an important part of their family’s story,” the spokesperson said, highlighting the importance of Britain to the Sussexes’ family history.
Meghan is also expected to continue developing her lifestyle brand, As Ever, during the family’s UK stay. Her business has become a major part of her post-royal career and provides her with an independent professional platform.
Just hours before taking the flight to Britain, Meghan announced As Ever’s latest product, Spiced Apple Butter, a seasonal offering inspired by her grandmother’s recipe and previously featured on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig.
The product launch offered a timely reminder that Meghan’s return to Britain is not simply about her relationship with the Royal Family. She is also arriving with her own ambitions, business interests and professional identity, giving the Sussexes an opportunity to define this chapter on their own terms.
As Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet settle into life in Britain, the family now faces the challenge of balancing their American life with their renewed connection to Harry’s homeland while determining what their future there will ultimately look like.
