Andrew Mountbatten Windsor Suffers Fresh Blow As Scotland Moves To Remove Historic Royal Plaque
Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has suffered another humiliating setback as pressure continues to mount around the disgraced royal. The younger brother of King Charles III is once again facing public backlash linked to his controversial ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
The former Duke of York, who was previously stripped of his royal titles and military roles, is now seeing another symbol of his past royal standing quietly erased. A second plaque connected to Andrew is set to be removed from the city of Inverness in Scotland.
The honour had been displayed outside Cafe 1668 on Church Street for decades. It commemorated Andrew’s visit to officially reopen Dunbar’s Hospital after the historic building underwent restoration in 1987.
Officials from National Trust for Scotland confirmed that steps are being taken to remove the plaque. The decision comes as institutions across the United Kingdom reconsider public honours connected to the controversial royal.
The inscription referenced Andrew and his former wife Sarah Ferguson. At the time of the ceremony they were formally known as the Earl and Countess of Inverness when they attended the opening event.
According to the plaque, it marked the reopening of Dunbar’s Hospital following extensive restoration by the National Trust for Scotland. The site also incorporated accommodation for Age Concern Inverness as part of the redevelopment.
The dedication was originally installed on July 3, 1987, meaning it has remained on display for nearly four decades. However, as the plaque approaches its thirty ninth anniversary, the historic marker is now being removed.
Local reaction to the decision has been sharply divided. Some residents argue that removing the plaque risks erasing a part of the city’s recorded history.
One local resident suggested that even if the plaque is taken down, it should be preserved elsewhere. They proposed that it could be relocated to a museum as a historical artifact rather than destroyed entirely.
Others strongly disagree and believe the tribute should disappear from public view permanently. Critics argue that Andrew’s controversies have damaged the monarchy’s reputation and that any public honours should be withdrawn.
The latest move follows a growing trend in which organisations and councils across Britain have begun distancing themselves from the former royal. Since Andrew lost his royal titles, several institutions have removed commemorations linked to him.
These actions come as the wider royal family, including Prince William, faces increasing pressure to safeguard the reputation of the monarchy during a period of intense public scrutiny.
For Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, the plaque removal represents yet another symbolic fall from grace. Once a senior member of the royal family, he now finds many of the honours connected to his past royal life steadily disappearing.
